Stocks, bonds, high interest account or property?

What would be better investments for somebody just really starting to invest. I get a good super, about 19% so that that pretty much taken care of. I’m buying a house and currently owe $166,000 on the property. I earn about $1500 a fortnight after tax etc and have no other debts, other than a mortgage. I want to start investing in “something” but am unsure what. I would consider property, but prices are so high at the moment. what do you guys think the best options currently are ? I think I could have anything up to about $700 – $800 a fortnight to invest but do not currently have a lump sum. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

First start a savings account. Accumulate your funds there and then once you have a chunk of money saved. consider mutual funds or the currency market because the rate of return is better than the stock market.
